In this episode 1 of series 5 of the comusik Podcast, we present the sound artist and researcher from Cairo Yara Mekawei who shares in this opportunity a sound record of the open-air markets of her city and her creative process of assembling works from her recordings´ archives, with the characteristic of being based on the research and sound reflections that she has been doing in recent years.

Friday open market, Attaba, El Gesh Street, Port Said Street, Haret El Yahood, Al Azhar and Soor el-Azbakeya. Major open-air public markets in the heart of Cairo. Where silence is not found. However, there is no silence.
Sounds have always been variable, even though they are similar to common ears. They contain an infinite number of frequencies that you do not hear. But your body receives it with open pores. The details drown you in their dots until you feel perplexed and helpless. It’s hard to realize it all. It’s what overwhelms you.
Being in the same place makes you get used to everything. The streets, the people, the buildings, the movements, the directions, even the sound. It’s like a daily videotape on repeat. In fact, there are variables. internal and external. That each sound is different at each moment. The one who doesn’t listen is not aware of it.

Episode 2: Tejido de voces by Richard Mújica | S5 - E2
In this episode 2 of the season 5 of the comusik Podcast, we present the Bolivian sound artist and anthropologist Richard Mújica who shares in this opportunity a sound recording of the General Cemetery of La Paz in the Festivity of “Todos Santos” and tells us about his creative process and assembly of recordings with the concern to reflect on the sensory world that surrounds us, doing research and recordings in recent years around the sound.
Tejido de Voces: based on the sound map of the festivity of Todos Santos.
This soundscape in the General Cemetery begins with a group of children praying with a lot of energy for the little angels. This is followed by a weaving of voices with several warmis risiris and a brass band that surrounds them with melodies of morenadas and tobas.
This “listening session” is composed of a series of 20 audios and each one has a specific episode in the Pachakamani podcast. All as an exercise in sound ethnography describing the sound rituality of the Todos Santos holiday in Bolivia.

Episode 3: Voces by Lluvia Bustos | S5 - E3
In this episode 3 of the season 5 of the comusik Podcast, we present the sound artist Lluvia Bustos who shares in this opportunity a sound recording of different points of the city of La Paz and tells us about her creative process and assembly of recordings with the purpose of sharing and evoking the sensory memory from what surrounds us, through her field recordings in recent years.
Voices
It is a work that uses several recordings from a previous project called “Mapa Sonoro del Municipio de La Paz” (Sound Map of the Municipality of La Paz). From this project, voices offering different products were extracted. To these audios were added other audios that were recorded for this work. In the montage, first the segments to be worked with were selected, then a structure was made with them. Then we worked on the audio part by immersive sounds in a sort of 360o sound, and in each channel we worked with panning to achieve a depth of sound. This is how the result transports us through different planes that are present in some moments and almost disappear in others.
